With the recent tragedies at Virginia Tech, I wanted to let everyone know that both NAPNAP and AAP have good useful information on their web sites for dealing with adolescents who are struggling to cope. NAPNAP's resource is KYSS, which is an excellent source for helping children of all ages feel safe. I want to thank all members who volunteer and help with the smooth running of our professional organization. After all, we are here for the children, and by helping our profession grow and become better, we are making a difference in children's lives. Anyone interested in a board position, or being a committee member locally, or on the national level, please let me know. We are always in need of volunteers. The annual Nuts and Bolts Conference on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at the Wyndham Vinings Hotel was fabulous. Everyone seemed to really like the conference and enjoyed visiting the vender booths. The speakers were very good and the topics pertinent. We hope to have as good an experience next year. Mark your calendars for the end of February. The annual national conference in Florida was a lot of fun. There was a large number of Georgia members who attended this year. This is my last year as your president. I just want to say thank-you to everyone for allowing me to be your president. I have truly enjoyed the experience and have learned a lot. Marina Slemmons will be taking over this summer and I wish her luck and hope that she has as much enjoyment in the position as I have. There are open board positions, specifically the president-elect. This person will work under Marina and then become president at the end of her term. I strongly encourage someone to go for it, as I have really enjoyed doing the job. If anyone is interested please contact me with any questions that you may have. Our next general meeting is planned for May 17, 2007. Hope to see everyone there. Please check the web site regularly as we are continually updating information. The Salary Survey results will be posted on the web soon. Diane M. Follmer

The conference tracks for 2008 are: Mental Health (to include Developmental/Behavior problems), Emerging Science (evidence based clinical topics), and Professional Issues (legal, ethical, practice and research related to Nurse Practitioner practice). Topics related to the Care of Chronically Ill/Special Needs Child, Genetics, and Reproductive/Genitourinary topics are encouraged. Pharmacology and a variety of primary and acute care topics are also needed. The deadline for submission of concurrent sessions is June 1, 2007. The deadline for submission of clinical research/projects is July 15, 2007. Because of the complexity of Intensive Workshop Sessions (IWS) arrangements, an online process is not currently available. If you are interested in presenting an IWS, please contact Dolores Jones at 904-646-4288 or djones@napnap.org about your proposal.
